Chris Copeman: Runcorn and Helsby
I am standing as the Green Party candidate for Runcorn and Helsby because I believe it is important that we have a green voice for this area. I grew up in Helsby and have lived with my family in the constituency for the last twenty years. I have worked in this area for most of my life as a vet surgeon and more recently I’ve been working hard as the borough councillor for Helsby, since being elected last year. Under the current government the NHS and education have suffered due to chronic underfunding, and the cost of living crisis has made life hard for many people. Action is needed to make homes more affordable and they need to be upgraded to reduce heating costs and make them healthier for their occupants. We need to act urgently to tackle climate change. Only the Greens have the vision to take the bold measures required to support the green transition and green jobs we really need. Labour have already cut their funding for climate change measures, previously promised, and won’t deliver the radical changes we need. Air pollution and water pollution need to be dealt with by improving public transport, supporting active travel, and making polluting companies pay. The Greens are the only party offering the solutions we need to improve people’s lives and protect our area for our future generations.
