Here are our outstanding candidates for the May local elections

Christleton and Huntington

Steve Davies (on left) grew up in Eccleston and has lived in Christleton for 30 years, serving as a Parish Councillor and member of the Village Fete Committee. His son was born here and attended the local schools.  He says “I care about the area and understand the local issues. I was also a Chester City Councillor and I therefore appreciate how the council functions and how best to get things done for the local community.  With the the help of Nick and local residents I have managed to campaign on some really important issues.”

Nick Brown (on right) is a teacher and local Green campaigner.  Nick comments “I have worked closely with residents on many issues, particularly campaigning for safer travel for pupils across the area. It has been a very rewarding experience to meet and work alongside members of the community and we know that we could do so much more if we were elected as your local councillors. I’d also like to make clear that Greens don’t have a party whip so don’t have to vote as they are told to by their party, unlike the other parties. This means we can truly speak up for residents.”

John Roach - Whitby Park campaigner

Whitby Park

John Roach lives in Whitby and has worked for many years in Ellesmere Port as a Social Housing Manager – he knows how to get things done in the Whitby Park area. He can be seen out regularly, knocking on doors to hear your views. John has taken up a huge range of issues with the Council to help people in the Whitby community. In February, John spoke on behalf of hundreds of Whitby residents at a public meeting on the hydrogen village trial. Representatives of Cadent and the Council were present. John said, “Our councillors and Cadent have ignored residents – we have had to pull together to get independent information, and shout from the rooftops to be heard.” John is working hard to ensure that residents’ views are listened to and respected by both Cadent and local politicians and has worked hard to secure a residents’ vote on the trial for later in the year. John says, “People have said how much they’ve appreciated someone listening to their issues and concerns on the doorstep, acting on them and getting things done.”

Kate Grannell - Whitby Groves campaigner

Whitby Groves

Kate Grannell has lived in Whitby for many years with her family. She cares deeply about the area, and can be seen out regularly, knocking on doors to hear residents’ views. Kate has been a community leader in the campaign against the hydrogen village trial. She is the only candidate in the upcoming local council elections who lives in Whitby Groves – the place she wants to represent on the council. This is not a general election so a truly local resident voice matters. Regarding the trial, Kate is working hard to ensure that residents’ views are listened to and respected. Kate has worked hard to secure a residents’ vote for later in the year. Kate is holding the council to account to make sure this happens, and that residents play a part in the wording and process of balloting the community.

Kate says, “I’m overwhelmed by the encouragement and support that I have received over the last few months. Many residents have said that they will be voting for their usual party of choice in the General Election, but voting for me in the local council elections this May because I work hard and I’m the only candidate that actually lives in our area.”

Chris Copeman

Helsby

Chris Copeman grew up in Helsby and knows the area incredibly well. He has supported Cllr Paul Bowers over the last 4 years, speaking with residents on the doorstep and chasing up issues that matter to them. Chris cares deeply about our area and is enthusiastic about working even harder as councillor of Helsby if elected. Chris says, “I’m excited about the prospect of standing for election in Helsby on 4th May. I have had such positive feedback from residents on the doorstep over the last couple of months. I will dedicate myself to representing the community to the very best of my ability.”
